The George Ohsawa Macrobiotic Foundation holds an 8 day macrobiotic camp every summer at the french meadows site in Tahoe National Forest in California. This year the dates are July 13-21, 2013. Choose to attend for 4 days or the full 8 days.
Campers sleep in tents or RVs, eat macrobiotic meals cooked outside over fire and attend numerous lectures and cooking classes. Wake early for a yoga or do-in class, participate in a day hike or schedule shiatsu or macrobiotic counseling sessions. I have only been to this event once, but plan to attend this coming summer. There is nothing quite like eating, communing and sleeping macrobiotic style for 8 days to help set my health and life in a positive direction. Some people use this camp as a yearly touchstone. It is an incredibly healing experience.
A few presenters include David and Cynthia Briscoe of Macrobiotics America, Sheri DeMaris, Sanae Suzuki cookbook author and co-owner of Seed Kitchen and Lino Stanchich of Great Life Global. The full list is here. Here is a post from Sanae’s blog talking about her experience from last year.
Work exchange options are available both in the children’s area and in the kitchen for those who would like to deepen their camp experience. Through December 15, 2012, take advantage of a discount for early payments. On the website there is a ride share board for people flying into Sacramento or driving from other areas.
